I’ve been trying to train myself to remember when my peace of mind wavers that…

My hips
Curves
Lips
Dips…

My body
This body
My body more than just matters.

Runner Girl returns for a 1 week run after a sold-out at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre as part of Camden Fringe Festival 2025, and Theatre Peckham’s Young, Gifted and Black 2025 season. Join us in experiencing more poetry and spoken word, movement, and the premiere of music produced by the writer and performer Lara Grace Ilori.

Anu has just arrived back home from uni and is navigating a world of buried feelings that rise to the surface after one terrifying encounter with a stranger. Runner Girl is a raw and relentless rhythmic story of a young woman who misses her Mum, a young woman whose been running from young, in more ways than one – but in this case, her routinely jog takes a terrifying turn triggering long-buried wounds she’s fought hard to keep hidden. This is a piece full of poems and prayers, rhymes and rhythms, and music and movement, following Anu on a path she was determined to not travel: visiting love lost, old wounds opened, and new truths given space to unfold.
